Why Organic Tampons?

Every month we prepare for our periods. We take inventory of what we need to get us through from tampons, pads, essential oils, heating pads, Purify sessions scheduled, down to the food we will be consuming. Many of my friends think it is weird that I go out of my way to have sustainable, non-toxic tampons and pads, but I do not care because I know these items are better for my overall health and well-being. Unfortunately, the majority of tampons you find today can have these toxic chemicals within them: aluminum, alcohol, fragrance additives, and hydrocarbons. Since tampons are inserted in us for hours at a time, it makes sense to have safety concerns. I do not want to pay plus tax on top of that for a cotton stick filled with bleach and fragrance marinating in me. I have gathered up and listed some great non-toxic tampons and pads below because you should be using the most gentle ingredients on such sensitive parts.

What is the difference between regular and organic tampons?

The difference is the way that the organic tampons are made compared to regular tampons. Also, the ingredients that are used to make them. For example, organic tampon companies say that the organic tampons are composed of:

  • 100% organic cotton

  • free of chemicals

  • rayon

  • synthetics

  • fragrance-free

  • hypoallergenic

  • not bleached with chlorine, dioxin free, and free of additive chemicals that may be harmful to a women's health.

By purchasing organic tampons and pads, you are supporting organic farming. Typically organic farming uses more sustainable practices; they do not treat the cotton with pesticides; therefore, less harmful chemicals are released into the environment. Organic tampons are usually more eco-friendly as well because of the applicators. The applicators are biodegradable cardboard or BPA-free plastic applicators that are derived from plant-based materials.

If you want to give organic tampons a try, check the box and look over the ingredients listed before purchasing.
